"I performed live, I made albums that people took into their lives and I made them happy. In my own small way I sang my way into the hearts of these people, most of them were complete strangers. People I will never meet and never know. Over the years many have sent me letters and made phone calls saying how much they love my music and the joy that this has brought to their lives. This in itself gives me a wonderful sense of fulfillment. A gift of joy that is beyond life's day to day pettysteve-36-ed struggles. I am proud to be a small part of all this and am privileged to know that over these long years I have entertained and made happy many 1000's of people. I can think of no greater thanks to my music. I have left a small footprint in this world. From Steve’s Autobiography, “One Man and his Microphone
